Lanecat monitoring software is designed based on the bypass interception, theoretically, it can be installed on any computer in the LAN. Because of the differences in topology, structure and connection equipment between various LAN, if you want to keep all the computers under your observation, you ought to install this monitoring software on the computer which acts the interface between Internet and LAN. If the connection equipment is Router or Firewall, the engine of Lanecat should be installed in the same segment of the LAN as the Router and Firewall.
Recommended Solution: Depending on the size of the monitored traffic and content, specify a computer of adequate performance as the monitoring server to monitor and manage the LAN, this solution won’t affect the speed of Internet. While acting as the monitoring server, the specified computer can be used for other purpose, as long as it has the extra capacity to perform the task.
1,If the LAN is connected to internet by Proxy Server/NAT, the LaneCat Engine should be installed on the computer that Proxy Server located and choose the internal network card as monitor NIC;
2,If the LAN is connected to internet by shared hub, the LaneCat Engine can be installed on any computer in the LAN: |

If the LAN is connected to internet by switch and uses software to shared network, LaneCat.Engine should be installed on equipment that is connected to Internet, such as Gateway/Proxy/Firewall. if the switch comes with mirror port, please configure the mirroring port on the port where gateway is located, and connect that mirror port to computer on which LaneCat Engine is installed |

If default gateway is Proxy Server, please install LaneCat service program on the computer which is used as Proxy Server. If your switch is advanced and comes with LAN management port used for running manage software, then you can connect the computer on which LaneCat is installed to this port directly. If you want to run other manage program at the same time, you can link a shared hub to this hub ,this way ,several management software can run simultaneously !
if LAN is connected to the switch through hardware router and switch ,the switch ,however ,is low-end one without the function of configuring mirroring port. In this case ,you should insert a shared hub between router and switch and install LaneCat Engine on the computer connected to the shared hub. That is to say, you should link gateway,internal switch and the computer running LaneCat Engine to this shared hub,for hub is data-sharing, so LaneCat engine can also get the needed monitored data. This method is also applicable when you can not find a proper point to install gateway or when you need to monitor LAN internal web-based mail server. |
